Ducros. This special feature focuses on the ways in which cultural institutions—especially museums—and practices have been fundamentally shaped by colonial and neocolonial relations. Importantly, the contributions also discuss the steps necessary to undo the institutional protocols in which racialized inequality and hierarchical relations are inscribed. Fellowships SAE-CES Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowship The Society for Anthropology of Europe (SAE) and the Council for European Studies (CES) invite eligible graduate students with a focus on European Anthropology to apply for the 2023 Anthropology of Europe Pre-Dissertation Fellowship. The SAE is the section of the American Anthropological Association that promotes the anthropological study of European societies and culture. Each fellowship includes a $5,000 stipend to fund two months' research in Europe, and travel support as well as a registration fee waiver for attending and presenting at the International Conference of Europeanists in 2024. Course: Security and Society Summer School 2022 - Online from Warsaw

The 8th Security and Society Summer School, hosted by Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, Poland, has moved online due to the refugee crisis resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war. Nonetheless, the topics of this summer school are even more relevant today. This online course presents two of the most popular features of the Security and Society Summer School - the two-week intensive course on Central Europe & Security Issues with an optional four-week research internship with the Terrorism Research Center. The efforts of this research internship result in publication.

This course offers a broad overview of the modern security challenges faced by the countries of Central Europe and more broadly by NATO and the European Union. This year we will focus on the regional and global implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, along with the broad topics of war, international law relating to war, and peacebuilding. Other topics include hybrid threats, cybersecurity, and terrorism. In the era of globalization and interconnectivity emerging security threats affect the whole world. Thus, much of this course will taught toward understanding how these issues are also affecting other geopolitical hotspots around the world.

As the world’s largest academic social science survey and research organization, the Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a leader in developing and applying new social science methods and is committed to educating the next generation of social scientists.

Our scientific mission is threefold:

ISR serves as a telescope on society, bringing the attitudes and behavior of people into clearer focus. Our large survey studies include the University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, the Health and Retirement Study, the National Survey of American Life, the Monitoring the Future Study, the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, and the World Values Study. These studies — providing data on voting behavior, teen drug and alcohol use, consumer confidence, the health and economic status of Black Americans, and other topics — are among our most visible work. But we also develop and test survey methodologies; conduct experimental studies; maintain and distribute the world’s largest archive of computerized social science data; and train and educate researchers and students from around the world in survey methodology and survey research.

Our research scientists are entrepreneurs, collaborating with colleagues to compete for public and private research funding. The core disciplinary strengths within our centers provide the intellectual foundation for the multi- and inter-disciplinary research that distinguishes our work.

European Horizons is a global, student-led policy incubator whose mission is to give young people a voice in shaping the future of Europe and of transatlantic relations. Through its network of university chapters across the world, and in collaboration with numerous partner organizations, European Horizons devises, tests, and advocates for innovative policy ideas to advance European integration.

 

We host guest speakers, cultural events, and policy workshops. There are also opportunities to engage in research and have your work published in the European Horizons research journal (RETA) and blog as well.

The American Academy in Berlin invites applications for its residential fellowships for the academic year 2020/21.

The Academy seeks to enrich transatlantic dialogue in the arts, humanities, and public policy through the development and communication of projects of the highest scholarly merit. Past recipients include anthropologists, art historians, literary scholars, philosophers, historians, musicologists, journalists, writers of fiction and nonfiction, filmmakers, sociologists, legal scholars, economists, and public policy experts.

Approximately twenty Berlin Prizes are conferred annually. Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester, but shorter stays of six to eight weeks are also possible. Benefits include round-trip airfare, partial board, a $5,000 monthly stipend, and accommodations at the Academy’s lakeside Hans Arnhold Center, in the Wannsee district of Berlin.

For 2020/21, the Academy will also award three specially designated fellowships: two Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in the Humanities, for work that demonstrates an interest in the topics of migration and social integration, race in comparative perspective, or exile and return. In addition, in memory of its founder, the Academy will name a Richard C. Holbrooke Fellow for a project that looks at diplomatic approaches to resolving major global issues, from armed conflicts to environmental challenges to the impact of new technologies.

For all projects, the Academy asks that candidates explain the relevance of a stay in Berlin to the development of their work. Proposals are by no means required to focus on German topics, but the Academy is interested in projects that will resonate with Berlin audiences.

Fellowships are restricted to US citizens and permanent residents. Candidates in academic disciplines must have completed a PhD at the time of application. Candidates working in other fields—journalism, film, law, or public policy—must have equivalent professional experience. Writers should have published at least one book with an established press at the time of application.

Please note that Berlin Prizes for visual artists, composers, and poets are determined in invitation-only competitions.

Following a peer-reviewed evaluation process, an independent Selection Committee reviews finalist applications. The 2020/21 Berlin Prizes will be announced in late April 2020.

The application deadline for 2020/21 is Monday, September 23, 2019 (6 pm EST).
