In this professional development webinar, Benjamin Pelletier will offer insights into the European Research Council’s (ERC) funding opportunities. The ERC is the premier European funding organization for excellent frontier research. The ERC supports investigator-driven frontier research across all disciplines. It awards research grants to scientists and scholars from all over the world, both early-career and senior researchers, carrying out their ambitious research projects across all scientific disciplines in Europe. In this webinar, CES members will learn about different ERC funding schemes, such as the ERC Starting Grant, the ERC Consolidator Grant, the ERC Advanced Grant, the ERC Proof of Concept Grant, and the ERC Synergy Grant. Speakers will also share some tips for preparing a competitive application. The webinar will be useful to post-doctoral researchers and established scholars of all disciplines and nationalities. Anderson is Professor of Social Policy and Head of School. She has held positions at universities in the Netherlands and Great Britain. Her research focuses on comparative social policy development, financialization and non-state social policy, and the impact of Europeanization on national welfare states. Karen has received a number of grants, including from NORFACE’s ‘Governance’ program for a four-country team project on the democratic governance of funded pension schemes. She is the Project Leader and Principal Investigator for the Irish team. She has also been awarded research grants from the Hans Boeckler Foundation (2021-2023), the NORFACE ‘Welfare State Futures’ programme (2015-2018), The Gak Foundation in the Netherlands (2011-2014), the European Union (Fifth Framework, 2002), and Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement). Benjamin Pelletiers’ core of expertise lies in the theories and practice of social economic and cultural rights. For five years in South East Asia, Benjamin investigated several challenges faced by local people such as the impact of a dam on the traditional way of life, the use of lèse majeste laws to silence social movements, and the expropriation of villagers to build a factory. Before joining the ERC in 2018, as the executive director of the Forum Montesquieu, which is a center of expertise and research in law and political sciences coordinating more than 250 researchers and 500 volunteers, Benjamin participated in the creation of the first law clinic opened to the general public in France, and the creation of the first law clinic in Morocco and two others in Algeria and Tunisia. He acquired external funds to create and implement research projects within the legal and political innovation foresight center.
