We are pleased to share with you the Call for Papers for the Sixteenth International Conference on e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies, University of Malta, Malta, 13-14 April 2023.

The e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies Research Network is brought together around a common concern for new technologies in learning and an interest to explore possibilities for innovative pedagogies. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary geographic and cultural boundaries. 

We invite proposals addressing one of the following themes.

A Blended Conference For over 30 years, Common Ground has been invested in developing technologies that seek to break down barriers of access in scholarly communication. In each phase, we’ve built media platforms to support spaces for interdisciplinary dialogue, before such approaches were in vogue; connected international voices, when disciplines were too often isolated in national silos; and supported an agenda of access and equality, by offering pathways and opportunities for diverse voices. We now propose another kind of intervention -- to build a scholarly communication infrastructure for a blended future. Our blended model seeks to transcend physical boundaries by offering a platform to extend in-person conference content online, while ensuring online-only delegates are afforded equal participatory and experiential spaces within the platform. At the same time, the model offers participants a legacy resource to which they can return in the Event application, with access to a social space in our Community application where fellow participants can keep connected long after the conference ends. With this step-by-step guide, you can get an insight into the new phases pre/during/post-conference of the blended conference experience. European Court of Auditors Postgraduate Research Grant Programme: Two research grants in the field of European public finance and EU budget, open to researchers from a wide range of disciplines, are available to conduct research at the HAEU in Florence. Deadline: 30 July 2021 

European People’s Party Postgraduate Research Grant Programme: Researchers interested in the history, role and impact of Christian Democracy on decisive moments in the process of European integration are invited to apply for a research grant to study the primary sources held at the HAEU, at the EPP Group’s archives in Brussels and at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in Sankt Augustin - Bonn. Summer Program: univie: summer school for European Cultural Studies

Deadline: June 15, 2021

The univie: summer school for European Cultural Studies takes place from July 17 - July 30, 2021. The program provides the unique opportunity to learn about history and culture in Europe from distinguished scholars with international teaching experience.

The two-week program offers two academic courses taught online. One course deals with history, politics, and everyday life in this area and the second course approaches Europe from the artistic side and examines and analyzes the visual culture in Europe.

The summer program also includes online excursions. Social online gatherings as well as group work in breakout rooms will encourage intercultural and social exchange between the students. Participants thus broaden their horizon, meet colleagues from different fields of study, and make new friends.

CFA: Postgraduate Vibeke Sørensen Research Grants 2021 (Florence, Italy)

The Historical Archives of the European Union (EUI) is launching a call for applications for the 2021 edition of the Vibeke Sørensen Grant programme.

Postgraduate students are invited to apply for this grant, which aims to encourage research on the history of European integration and of EU institutions based on primary sources held at the Historical Archives of the European Union.

Interested parties should submit a CV, a detailed research proposal including justification of the need to use the HAEU, a letter of recommendation and planned dates of stay at the HAEU. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to spend one month at the Historical Archives for the consultation of archival holdings.

A maximum of ten Vibeke Sørensen Grants are awarded per year without obligation to award the maximum number of grants. Successful candidates are obliged to be present in the reading room at least four days a week during their research stay. For the year 2021, applications will be accepted and grants awarded for two separate periods.

Deadlines for applications are 31 March and 30 June 2021.

The Vibeke Sørensen Grant programme for visiting scholars was set up in 1993, by then EUI President Emile Noël and with the support of the European Commission. The grant scheme adopted its current name in 1997 to honour the memory of Dr. Vibeke Sørensen (1952 – 1995), former researcher at the EUI History Department and staff member of the Historical Archives.  As a researcher she completed in 1987 her thesis on Denmark's social democratic government and the Marshall Plan, 1947-1950 under the supervision of Prof. Alan S. Milward with whom she later collaborated on the collective volume The Frontier of National Sovereignty: History and Theory 1945-1992 (Routledge, 1994).

Job: Research Fellow for the Health and Care Unit (Vienna, Austria)

The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy research looking for a research fellow to work on a range of issues on long-term care, particularly with an international comparative perspective. These issues include inequalities (e.g. social determinants of health and frailty, gender), informal care, life-course, care workforce, care regimes, active ageing or financing.

We offer the possibility for young researchers to develop and grow in a working environment that emphasizes excellence, interdisciplinary co-operation between colleagues inside and outside the European Centre, independence and autonomy at work. We also offer flexible working hours and a remuneration package compatible with expertise and demonstrated experience.

CFP: Between self-determination and self-glorification – on treaties, alliances and law of peoples: Relations between the Ottoman Empire and the German-speaking Central Europe in Nineteenth century

Scientific works on the blossoming political, cultural and economic relations between the Ottoman Empire and Germany or between the Ottoman Empire and Austria, in 19th Century, focus on specific themes such as the efforts of Metternich to reconstruct the old system of  Europe, Bismarck's Gleichgewichtspolitik(Balance of Power), the World Politics of Wilhelm II. and finally the brotherhood in arms in World War One. Similarly, the frequently discussed questions and themes are German military missions in the Ottoman Empire or the Bagdad Railway. However, the relations between the Ottoman Empire and Switzerland, various issues related to the inter-state, inter-cultural and inter-personal relations between the two culture spaces are among the understudied topics.

This call is designed for those papers which discuss specific themes that are hitherto understudied. We would be happy to accept submissions that discuss the relations between the Ottoman Empire and Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the effects of these relations on other nationalities and countries in Central Europe. The goal of our edited book is to discuss the relations between the Ottoman Empire and the German-speaking countries in an overall perspective. Papers related to the study of international treaties, agreements or conventions, as well as historical figures whose role and function within these relations is not mentioned enough, are particularly welcomed.

The following are some themes that may be taken into consideration: The Geneva Convention and the Ottoman Empire; the Red Cross and the question about the use of the crescent; civil right issues concerning the Austrian citizens in Moldavia and Wallachia living both under Ottoman suzerainity and Russian protectorate, national movements and revolutionaries and their effects on the interstate relations.

CFA: The European Summer School in Prague: Deadline Extended!

Deadline for applying to the 16th annual European Summer School has been extended until 15th June!

The European Summer School in Prague is an intensive 10-day learning programme focused on European integration. It is organized by one of the leading think-tanks in Central Europe, EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, in co-operation with Prague College and the Charles University Faculty of Social Sciences. This year’s European Summer School runs under the title “Europe in Transition: Exploring EU’s Futures”. What will the EU look like in the upcoming decade? Should it become the United States of Europe, or is a multi-speed Europe a better scenario? How will the departure of Great Britain shape the future of the Union? And is the EU prepared to tackle any emerging challenges? Find out in Prague, at the 16th annual European Summer School!
