Call for Applications! MA/MSc Dual Degree | Colombia University & London School of Economics and Political Science

 

Dear Colleague,   Columbia University and the London School of Economics and Political Science are launching a new dual MA/MSc degree program leading to the awards of the MA in European History, Politics, and Society from Columbia and the MSc in Culture and Conflict in a Global Europe from LSE.    The dual-degree program is designed for students considering careers in the non-profit and corporate sectors as well as in government or in international and European institutions. It has a strong focus on policy analysis and on the development of professional skills.   Students will engage with Europe's historical and current developments in a multi- and inter-disciplinary manner. They will be able to craft their own courses of study to best fit their interests and career goals.   The program will accept applications for its first cohort of students until March 16, 2023. The cohort will join the program in September 2023. CFA: European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (Italy)

The European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) is one of seven Regional Master’s Programmes organised by the Global Campus of Human Rights - a unique network of more than one hundred universities around the world seeking to advance human rights and democracy through regional and global cooperation for education and research. It was created with the support of the European Union and 42 participating universities from all the EU member states.

EMA is a one-year advanced master’s course aimed at educating professionals in the field of human rights and democratisation. The Master’s degree offers an action- and policy-oriented approach to learning that combines legal, political, historical, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives with skill-building activities, and in-depth study of the following areas: Human Rights Institutions, Mechanisms and Standards; Human Rights in Context: Historical, Philosophical, Religious and Anthropological Perspectives; Globalisation, Development and Human Rights; Building and Protecting Democracy; Human Rights, Peace and Security.

EMA provides the foundation for a career in national, international, governmental, inter-governmental and nongovernmental organisations, as well as academic institutions dealing with human rights and democratisation.

THE PROGRAMME
EMA is both a residential and an exchange programme. The first semester from September 2021 to January 2022 is organised at Global Campus Headquarters in Venice and the second semester from February to July 2022 takes place in one of the 42 participating universities within the member states of the European Union plus the uk and Switzerland. The multidisciplinary EMA Programme includes lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, skill-building sessions and individual research.

SUPPORTING INSTITUTIONS
EMA is primarily financed by the European Union. EMA also collaborates with unesco, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Region of Veneto, and benefits from close cooperation with the Council of Europe, the osce and other international organisations. The EMA Programme is further enriched by the input of representatives of non-governmental organisations such as, among others, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Human Rights Watch, the International Commission of Jurists, and the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims.

HOW TO APPLY
Deadline for non-EU applicants: 15 February 2021
Deadline for EU applicants: 19 April 2021
Venue: Global Campus Headquarters in Venice Lido at the Monastery of San Nicolò.

Admission Requirements: EMA is open to EU and non-EU citizens. The criteria adopted during the selection process are: academic ability and background, relevant additional academic work, courses or publications, relevant practical experience, motivation and language competence. Applicants are required to hold a university degree of a high standard in a field relevant to human rights, including disciplines in Law, Social Sciences and Humanities, and must have a minimum of 180 ECTS (Bachelor/General Degree). Certified fluency in English is an admission requirement to the programme.
