Dear Colleague, We are pleased to share with you the Call for Papers for the Information, Medium & Society: Twenty-first International Conference on Publishing Studies, to be hosted by Sorbonne Université, Paris, France, 30 June 2023. The Information, Medium & Society – The Publishing Studies Research Network is brought together by a shared interest in investigating publishing practices as distinctive modes of social knowledge production. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. Our Program Development team draws on this diversity to craft a rich and distinctive blended conference experience, with session types and programming explicitly designed to make the most of both online and place-based social knowledge processes. Special Focus Social Narrative Makers: Storytellers, Researchers, Publishers, Platforms In addition to the annual special focus, we invite proposals addressing one of the following themes. Plenary Speaker Dr. Phillip Kalantzis Cope Chief Social Scientist, Common Ground Research Networks, USA We are still in our selection process; keep up to date as more Plenary Speakers are being confirmed. You can also see a list of other presenters on the Presentation tab on the Event Microsite. In-Person + Online You can present and/or attend as an In-Person or Online Only delegate. Our model seeks to transcend physical boundaries by offering a platform to extend in-person conference content online while ensuring online-only delegates are afforded participatory and experiential spaces within the platform. At the same time, the model offers participants a legacy resource to which they can return in the CGScholar Event microsite, with access to a social space in our Community application where fellow participants can keep connected long after the conference ends.  With this step-by-step guide, you can get an insight into the new phases pre/during/post-conference of the conference experience. Social Events  Live Online Tour: Visit the Louvre with an Art Historian Discover the most famous museum in the world directly from your home. No crowds, no lines, no noise: you will enjoy the history of the building and its most famous masterpieces in perfect comfort. Narratives of Paris Walking Tour: Sainte Chapelle and Ile de La Cite From the guide: "Ile-de-la-Cite, the little island dominated by the towers of Notre Dame Cathedral and the spire of the Sainte Chapelle, is the cradle of Paris. It is a unique place where it is still possible to read the history of the city from the beginning to the XXI century. Follow me in this tour back in time: I will bring Medieval Paris back to life. We will start our tour at the Sainte Chapelle (outside and inside), to admire its amazing stained glasses and walk in front of the Conciergerie, to learn the history behind its imposing. Following the little street of the Latin district we will finally arrive in front of Notre Dame. The church is still closed because of the fire but we will admire it from the best point of view. The tour will end just in front of the Cathedral." Boat Dinner Cruise: The Essence of Paris Join other delegates and plenary speakers for a boat dinner cruise. Enjoy the night views over the Seine River. Consider earning 3 credits while interning or volunteering abroad through FR281/381

A course designed to help students get the most out of their internship by observing, analyzing and reflecting on their cultural experiences and interactions while in their work environment.  It is a great opportunity to network with other UM interns worldwide, build your résumé, and really take stock in the linguistic gains and global competence you build throughout your time abroad.  The coursework includes a pre- and post-internship meeting, blogging / vlogging weekly while abroad, and presenting about your experiences to other French classes during the Fall semester.  Students enroll in the course during the Fall semester – although the class does not meet regularly in the fall - to take into account the varying dates of internships (May through August) and so that students do not have to pay the increased Spring / Summer tuition (the 3 credits can be a part of a student’s normal financial aid package).
