Univie: Summer School for International and European Studies 2024

We would like to introduce you to the univie: summer school – International and European Studies 2024 of the Sommerhochschule of the University of Vienna. The univie: summer school will take place from July 13 to August 10, 2024. The four week program offers high-level European studies courses, the Austrian Arbitration Academy, and German language courses. The European studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal transformations, and also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transitions the continent is currently undergoing. The Austrian Arbitration Academy is designed for law students and focuses on international dispute settlement by arbitral tribunals. We believe the courses offered at the Sommerhochschule would complement your university’s academic offerings. Given the intercultural and interdisciplinary aspect of the summer school, our program is of interest to students from all fields of study, but certainly of special interest to students who concentrate on Europe or study one of the following fields: Austrian Studies, European Studies, Political Science, Law (Arbitration Law, International Law, European Law, Comparative Law), Economics, History, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or German. Students from all over the world have been drawn to the program. The Sommerhochschule has an outstanding academic reputation and offers an excellent opportunity to study German. The campus is located directly on the shore of Lake Wolfgang, one of Austria's most popular lakes in the picturesque Salzkammergut region. The campus life creates an environment which encourages intercultural and social exchange and favours mutual understanding within the international student population. Summer Program! Ukrainian Language Workshop - Study Abroad in Warsaw

Ukrainian Language Workshop

Join SRAS in Warsaw for Ukrainian language study this summer. 

This program blends intensive language study with service learning as you work with organizations supporting the Ukrainian refugees in Warsaw. We will introduce the structure of humanitarian aid, how funds and necessary goods move, how volunteers are trained. We will look at the impact on local infrastructure and how cities in Poland have changed - and at "culture in exile." We will learn how aid organizations and other private and government organizations are also looking ahead to a next stage of humanitarian and reconstruction aid in Ukraine. 

Program dates: June 5 - 30, 2023 / July 3 - 28, 2023

Cost: $2,950 per 4-week session, $4,550 for both sessions

Summer Prgram! Security and Study Abroad - Study abroad in Warsaw

Security and Society Summer School

Now in its 9th year, this summer program has provided participants with unique perpectives on security issues in Central Europe and a resume-building experience. The 4-week in-person course is based in Warsaw, with travel to Berlin and Krakow. It is followed by a two-week online research internship with the Terrorism Research Centre. Papers developed during this internship will be published as part of Volume 6 of Security and Society in the Information Age.

The course offers a broad overview of the modern security challenges faced by the countries of Central Europe and more broadly by NATO and the European Union. This year we will focus on the regional and global implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, along with the broad topics of war, international law relating to war, and peacebuilding. Other topics include hybrid threats, cybersecurity, and terrorism.

Students seeking to gain further experience abroad may opt for the extended 9-week session, in which they move after the first four weeks to Yerevan, Armenia, after a short stay in Tbilisi, Georgia. Yerevan will serve as a based for completing work on the research internship prior to four weeks of intensive Russian-language study. During this time we will also become familiar witih security concerns in the Caucasus region, Armenia in particular.

Fellowships SAE-CES Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowship The Society for Anthropology of Europe (SAE) and the Council for European Studies (CES) invite eligible graduate students with a focus on European Anthropology to apply for the 2023 Anthropology of Europe Pre-Dissertation Fellowship. The SAE is the section of the American Anthropological Association that promotes the anthropological study of European societies and culture. Each fellowship includes a $5,000 stipend to fund two months' research in Europe, and travel support as well as a registration fee waiver for attending and presenting at the International Conference of Europeanists in 2024.
